What can I expect from each session?

In our first session, we will spend some time going over the forms and policies prior to counselling. You will have the opportunity to ask me any questions about the counselling process as well. Then you can feel free to tell me the reason(s) that led you to seek counselling. Each session will be approximately one hour but usually the first session will be longer. Each session we will discuss relevant details pertaining to the issue at hand, pray and interact with the Bible, and go over the previous session’s assigned “homework.”

What is “homework?”

Homework is an assigned task for you to complete in between sessions as part of the counselling process. This will vary from session to session but examples include reading and reflecting through a Scripture passage in light of your circumstances, having a discussion with a trusted friend, and working through a resource that we provide for you. Homework is something that we agree upon together and reminds us that God is continually working in us throughout the week.

How many sessions will counselling take?

The duration of counselling varies but typically we will plan for 8-10 sessions. We will meet weekly but as we notice improvement, we will suggest changing to a bi-weekly and then a monthly schedule and begin to look beyond our time together. If you require a different arrangement, please let your counsellor know as soon as possible for planning purposes.

What is included in the fee?

Each session’s fee includes the time we spend together in counselling, the time we spend outside of session to prepare and plan, and also any material provided to you for homework.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently accept e-transfers to milton@luminyx.ca 24 hours prior to each session. A receipt will be issued to you at the end of each session.

What is your cancellation policy?

In the event you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If you need to cancel your session within 24 hours of its scheduled time, you agree to cover the expected fees.

Does Luminyx offer counselling sessions through video or voice calls?

We believe that in person face-to-face counselling is ideal, but we recognize that individual extenuating circumstances may not make this feasible. We consider other means on a case-by-case basis and will consider other counsellors who may be closer to you for referral. Please contact us for more details.
